About Back to the Barre

Ballet is not only for children. Every week adults walk into studios for the first time, or for the first time in twenty years, and the hardest part is finding a class that was actually built for them.

Back to the Barre is a free, searchable directory of ballet studios with real adult classes. We sort by the things adults ask about: is this for true beginners or for people coming back? Does it start after work? Can I drop in, and what does one class cost?

The site is operated by Oppenheimer Ballet Studios, LLC, the team behind the American Academy of Ballet in Western New York and Ballet Summer Intensives. Because we run a studio ourselves, we say so: the American Academy of Ballet appears in this directory under the same rules as every other studio, and its listing carries a disclosure.

How listings are made

We start from each studio's own public web page, record where every fact came from, and mark the listing unclaimed until the studio confirms it. Studios can claim their listing free. See our criteria.
